Hey all, Was wondering in anyone's infinite wisdom if they happen to know German or may have a book around, or any suggestions where I might look online possibly. Got some close friends of mine and I are planning a weekend sometime this summer to have a big paintball weekend and our team is themeing In Character as Waffen SS so I'd like to attempt to learn some basic German before then.

Thanks for the bit of info, also I'd like to add if anyone's intrested in that weekend, we're sitting down and planning expenses now, but mostly it's just gonna be personal expenses such as your own gun, paintballs ect. We're leaving the teams to decide on food menu's which I'm researching now (yay for beer and Bratwurst the Friday we get there) we're trying to make it as realistic as possible atleast on our team.

Germ as most of the group can tell you is a love of mine. I am, sadly, not a teacher nore one to have the patience for it. I can supply you with a multitude of web-sites, though I find google may be your best bet. The thing with learning "basic" german is. . . Make sure your learning it for the right reasons.
If you want basic commands, I can supply you with them virtually though the true pronounceation would be lost. I find most Americans slur their German or make it sound harder then what it actually is.
Before I go on a rant, I'll toss you a few Web Links when I get to my house. I have them all saved at the house. I do own a collection of German books and dictionaries, but I barely trust my own brother with them . . . Sorry.
I can only proxy so much and get to so many websites. . . Damn school blockers. . . I'm thankful I know more about the internet then the school board.

Thanks for the invite but with my bald head and work in the public, dressing like SS is only going to get me into a ton of trouble.

I don't think we've contemplated the possibility of being trouble yet...

translation2.paralink.com/Do simple words... It will have issues doing longer sentences... It will translate word for word... At times, it causes abominations of the German grammar structure. But yes, as for going around as the SS... I am a militant nut, I joke I am fascist, but I even shy away from the Nazi's do to the stigma and the Evil's that came from them. I had a bit of a phase when I was 13-14 when I was Enthralled by the Power they gained. Then I quickly learned of Stalin and then learned of so many more. So soon I learned I was not one for the Nazi machine but instead I learned I just respect and admire anyone who had gained power in History. I love German history, I love European History, I love war. . . But I always view my obsession with history as a healthy hobby, I do not let it rule my life. If you go about in a SS uniform, make sure you only do it for fun. If you turn it into a lifestyle or let the marks of the Nazi's show alot. You will be quick to be branded a raciest or a Neo-nazi. Always make sure there is a difference between having fun, and actually promoting a uniform of a true enemy. That Uniform in history ment one thing, and one thing only, a truely devoted person to Hitler, the Aryan Race, and Nazi Germany. It does not represent Kick ass, kewl, slick, or swade. What is ironic is, Nazi SS officers had a high suicide rate. Just like my comment with Learning German, learn it for the right reasons. I love the way the Language sounds, hence my obession with it. (As well as my favorite band is German.) Make sure your going into this for the right reason, you just want to poke and laugh at history a bit and have some fun. DO NOT go into this thinking you truly are SS officers. Always keep the difference between "roleplay" and real life. I say, go for it, have fun, you live only once. . . To be honest, I'd get a laugh out of seeing that, I enjoy a good poke and laugh at History. Make sure you do that, crack a few jokes about it. But I can't stress enough, make sure it is known to be a JOKE and nothing but!

And that's exactly what it is, just fun. I mean most of it is just joking around like asking for indentification at out bases borders and if they don't have papers, like em up with paintballs, then sitting around a fire smoking, drinkin Dinklelager and eating bratwurst.

^ Fail post on my part... By the way that website is awesome. Figure If I learn basics like standard conversation, Hello, good bye, ect and use that to learn standard military commands, I can make it work...or completely butcher the German language, either way...
