*sigh* And here I thought I would be the first one to reply to Landis's posts. Oh well Droz you bet me to it, but I will say what I have to say anyhow (even if its sounds the same as your rant).
While the HCB may be minor in your opinion, right now it has been the major issue on our plates. To me it is a step toward socialicism and another government program that will do more harm then good. Honestly, part of the bill states that employees that work to insure the bill is carried out are not applied to the bill itself (red flag!) How else are we to pay for it but (surprise) raise taxes. Also in the HCB the govt has the right to tell you how to raise your own children (hmm don't know about you but not many people care for it when regular people comment on child raising.)
Look I just work a 52.5 hour week recently, now before taxes my 401k came out of my check, and then the govt took its piece. I had a 1,000 taxable income that week, and once uncle Sam took his piece I had maybe 600 of that when it was all said and done. Just over half to me, and you are OK with the govt taking more from other places? I am not I need every bit I can get.
Govt programs like this will only weaken the American people as its hold grows. Look at welfare and child support. It has basically weakened the family unit, Men are only needed for sperm. The govt gives money to single moms plus making fathers pay them part of their check so they can live( great if the system worked, but it doesn't). Yes there are single mothers out there who need the help, but let's face it, you know at least one person that is taking advantage of the system in some manner. Same goes for unemployment, now why would you work when you are gonna get money for nothing?? And as you know we, the working middle class get to foot the bill, oh fun.
Now think about this, the wealthy know how to hide their money and keep it. There are banks out there that will take their money and keep it safe for them and in countries where they don't get taxed for the interest they earn on it. While the poor simply do not have the money to take from or tax. We (the lower middle class) don't have the connections to safe keep our money and we make too much for the govt to simply look over us. So we will take the burden.
My biggest beef with the HCB, and any program the "helps" the poorer members of our society is this, I and my family have struggled, fought, and bleed for what we have. My mom came from a dirt poor farm and worked her way up, I have had to struggle to earn my keep and keep things floating. Not once have we gone to the govt for unemployment, for aid, or anything. If some poor immigrants can do it why can't the rest of the privileged citizens help pull themselves up and walk on their own? Why should I bust my ass for YOU to half ass everything and get taken care of? I have to much to lose to ideally sit by and let socialism redefine what my family as worked for.
I have more to input but as I type I am becoming to angry to keep on point, so once I calm down I will take the time to write up a better statement.
