Debate time!
When it comes to the games that are released for both PC and console systems, which do you find more enjoyable? Does it vary by game, or do you swear by either one no matter what?
What are the pros/cons to each game that you find? Reasons please!
Example: The Elder Scrolls series was released to both PC and Xbox/Xbox 360. I've heard good and bad about playing on both.
(This is not the thread to argue about which system is better as far as Wii vs. Xbox 360, or Mac vs. Windows)

well, id have to say, while leaning towards consoles, it really varies. i play prototype (xbox360 and pc version) and honestly cant tell much difference. load times on the pc can suck, but thats for every game.
here is a valid question, though: when compairing, are we using a pc with the bare minimum requirements, or the best there is? thats a big deal with 3d games like prototype. and not so much for games like tetris, digdug and pacman. because, in all honesty, it makes a difference.
but, in conclusion, i feel it varies. graphics can drop on consoles, but load times can jump on pcs.
and, on another note, kudos to a good topic.

For me it's usually just control preference and title availability. Like in my case I hate having to use a keyboard and mouse for anything game related, but I get frustrated to see a PC game never able to reach my xbox.

I prefer consoles in comparison to pcs. First reason is that my pc is never quit up to date for the game to run smoothly, and second its much harder to get the cheaters on the console games (even though they are still there)

Yay! I got a kudos for a good topic!
Once again, my comparative noob status makes it hard for me to give an opinion on something like this. I haven't played nearly as many games as most of you have or on as many different systems, but I think that like most of you I prefer the console games. The only benefit I've seen to having a game on PC is for MMOs. Until they offer something reasonably functional and entertaining in the MMO department for a console, the PC will win there every time. Pretty much anything else, the consoles have it in the bag.
And as far as the quality of the hardware (speaking in PCs), I'd say assume you have the best there is just for the sake of argument. If the only thing that keeps you from playing a game on PC is the fact that yours in particular sucks and will barely play it, then that's not really debating PCs in general vs. consoles in general. That's arguing YOUR PC vs. what it could be. To my knowledge, consoles don't have very many upgrades available other than cooler fans and other "accessories" which don't really make them run better, it just lets you customize your play style a little more. Upgrades to PCs usually make the games run more efficiently.

Its called software Lady, and yes most consoles help with that now. I know X box does system updates and patches on a regular basis, not sure about play-station. But then again it is a GAMING console, where your PC and a multitude of other functions that may require better programs.
That and I play on line with a lot of people from work in FPS games. Never did get into MMO's, its just not my cup of tea.

I meant hardware as far as the RAM and video cards and graphics chips (or whatever they're called) goes. Not the programs that you are running, but the basic computer hardware that allows the game to run great/good/not so good/sucks balls.

yup, its a good topic. and id have to say, that givven a choice, id chose a pc after thinking it thru more. as long as its the best for the game, id choose a pc. for 3 main reasons: 1. computers have batteries. which means they are portable. (speaking of laptops) 2. cumputers have screens built in (monitor, laptop screen) no finding a tv to play on. 3. multitasking. im afraid that messaging on the xbox and ps3, from my exerience, is limited more or less to the people who have the system. i like being able to talk to my msn friends and my yahoo friends at the same time, so i applied that logic to system messaging. i feel that if you could find every title out there for every system, computers would win and consoles in general would be like the dinosaurs- dead.

A PC is nothing more than every console ever made rolled into 1 system with the ability to obtain every game ever made for said consoles for absolutely free. Better hardware. Better software. More customizable. Larger communities No subscription fees for proprietary services (Xboxlive) Emulators/ROMs Any media player you choose Nearly infinite storage space Mods/Addons Not limited to proprietary hardware/software No RRoD Need I go further? I prefer console because of viruses >>Implying viruses are still a legitimate issue >>GirlsLaughing.jpeg

that all is absolutely true, however i have a problem with your next to last sentance. viruses are indeed a major issue. some people i know refuse to play any games on their pcs because of the chance of viruses. its a very valid point. i was on a server a few years ago for ragnarok online (i have stopped playing it now, thank god) and someone got banned by a gm, so he decided to make a dummy acct, and hit every pc who visited the forums with a nice lil virus. that hit about 50 percent of the servers population before it got fixed. moral- viruses still exist.
not saying that they cant be stopped or outright prevented, but when you buy a system (xbox, playstation, ect) they are rather difficult to design viruses for. pcs, because of the languages out there you can program in that the pc itself can read, makes it relatively simple.
so yes pcs are generally better, but from the virus aspect alone id give pcs 5/10, and consoles 9/10.

An isolated incident related to visiting the forum of an essentially dead MMO does not at all imply that viruses are still a legitimate issue. The fact of the matter is, people capable of making viruses have moved on from doing petty hard-drive or OS damage. Why bother when you can steal information and possibly get paid for it? I personally haven't used anti-virus software in over 3 years. The truth is, viruses are 100% avoidable by using just a small amount of common sense in your internet browsing. If you're using the PC for gaming and nothing but gaming, you're virtually never going to obtain any viruses.
All of this aside, arbitrarily rating PC's a 5/10 and console a 9/10 isn't helping your cause. Particularly if you're talking about the most recent generation of consoles. The 360 sounds like a jet taking off and is likely going to RRoD on you within a year, the PS3 has no gaems, and the Wii... I don't think I even need to say anything about that.
God Tier - PC/Retro console gaming High Tier - Ps3 Mid Tier - 360 Break it with a hammer tier - Wii
The ONLY redeeming quality of the Wii is how easy it is to hack and pirate games. 1 brand new game - $60, 1 stack of blank DVD's - $20, getting every game you would ever want for free - Priceless.

wow, not to sound like an ass, but you dont read, do you? i rated them on the aspect of obtaining viruses from a similar source ONLY. do i feel pcs are better? 100%. and your opinion (because thats what it is) is slightly malinformed about the xbox, wii and ps3. sales of wiis and games for it still are at #1 worldwide out of the three, the ps3 does have some decent titles (metal gear being one) and the xbox has actually started to trail off.... the last time i checked, anyway. but that was two weeks ago. so i may be running on old data.
as for the "essentially dead mmo" there are over 700 servers running for it. how does that make it dead? wow has how many servers again? and wow is ghey to beign with. id rather play dnd, warhammer, or any of the other games than waste my time and money on wow.
and congrats on not using anti virus. cant wait to hear youve not been able to sign in to the brb site because you got hit by a virus.

PS3 having no games relates to your preference, and is untrue. Even if it were true, there will be mounds of titles in no time.
360's apparent inevitable Red Ring tolerance is mostly related to user error and maintenance and therefore is equal to your so-called anti-virus "common sense".
The Wii's design makes you get your lazy ass out of the chair for a great deal of it's better selling titles, and therefore is worth the price for your kids who need both a game rating helper for confused parents and kids who need more activity but only like video games.
I can mod ANY of these devices for limitless "free" retro gaming if I wish, and don't mind a little start up sound to make my ear familiar to a quality product.
PC requires more setup space (laptop not included here) and typically need frequent maintenance/upgrades just like any other machine.
As far as any sort of ratings seen above, I laugh at them all. Each family and/or gamer prefers different devices for a myriad of reasons. Mine mostly correlates to money spent, but also comfort and lifespan. As well as ease of maintenance.
I obviously was not gifted enough financially to have a computer just for gaming, otherwise I may feel differently, but it seems more frugal to have a machine for multi-purpose. This is also why one gets married, so that the girlfriend who used to just give you company and force you to work hard for any kind of fulfillment, the same woman who agrees to marry you will now fold your underwear, make you a sandwich, AND play a game with you if you bring the mail in.
If that same woman was only good at playing a game with you, why would you make such a strong commitment?? lol
prefer what you prefer, but I'm just saying one is not usually simply better than another without bias.

i agree, bossman droz. my "ratings" from above where simply based on a systems (be it pc or console) susceptibility to viruses from a similar source, gaming. i honestly have no prefference for the three main systems out right now, simply because i have enough friends that have them that all i have to do is ask one to play it when i feel like it. i still give pcs a better overall performance rating, simply because of the number of things you can do on one. but that is, after all, just my opinion.
