Along with Droz's post about inspiring or just for fun movies, we can't forget books! After all, our great Lord of the Rings series would never have been if it hadn't been written down first.
Pretty much the same deal here as the movies, except in paper and ink form.
I'll go ahead and give my two cents.
The D&D novels series - 3.5 out of 5 stars. I thought they were a good read, good insight for revealing character backgrounds, running and playing the game.
ORCS - 5 out of 5 stars. I absolutely love this book! I finally got to see the story from their point of view, while keeping true to what I think is really the orc nature. I own the sequel, ORCS - Bad Blood, but it's still sitting on my shelf unopened. I hope to change that status soon, and will post my review once I've finished it. I drew a lot of inspiration from the characters, human, orc, dwarf, troll, and even saw a bit of my own characters in them. I've heard tell that they are in the process of getting rights for a film, so if any hears anything about them releasing a movie, post it in the movie section!!!

For our Classic Warhammer Settings
Gotrek and Felix Novels - 4/5, Good read I enjoyed it.
The Black Hearts Novels - 5/5, by far the best Warhammer Fantasy novels out. They truly bring the idea of a Grim World to heart.
Gaunt's Ghosts Novels - 5/5, It made me wanan duck! I would get into those books so much I felt like I was surrounded by Chaos fanatics and Las Rounds were zapping past my head.
Commisar Caine Novels - 5/5, It gave the Dark Grim World a host of Humor. If you want a Laugh and a half, read these.
For more Fantasy books, the Dragon Lance books(And all related books to that universe) I loved them all, a 5/5. My heart shall forever be in Fizban's hand.
Don Quixote, a Classic Story of a Knight. It is true must read. 5/5
Harry Potter, hate it or love, I loved it. 5/5 for placeing me a world in magic and wonder. I enjoyed the twist of Magic being in a modern setting.
(I'll sticky this, because this a thread that should grow)

I've not done nearly the reading I should, and certainly not for a long time. But I can scratch a few down here. (Nearly all of these are very easy young teen or earlier reads...I know, I should be doing better, I went to the movies instead.)
Gemini Game - Future setting, video games, adventure/suspense
R.L. Stine had loads of fodder for horror and suspense that could be laughably campy at times, and at others terrifying and grim. Among my faves were Hit and Run, and Phantom of the Auditorium.
The Crucible - A play, yes. But a very good one. Old witch hunting Salem stuff. Very good, film adaptation not bad.
Devil's Arithmetic - A teen's epic daydream experience that finally helps her understand why her religion means something to her. Again a not terrible film adaptation as well. See also, Number the Stars.
Amulet of Power - The only Lara Croft novel I've been able to hold onto long enough to read. The search a missing relic in the Sudan and its hidden loot. To be Sequelled in book by Angel of Darkness (not yet read) which was a flop game at best, but with a murderous story in the underbelly of Paris.
I need to read more.

Lenor the cute little dead girl. This is just an entertaining comic book ;D they have tons of them but you have to love them!
Johnny the homicidal maniac. This is another comic, made by the creator of invader zim while he was a teenager.
Bad girls dont die. This is a book about a ghost coming back pretty much. Not much to explain but its really good ;D.
Death note: Look at it NAO!
I read thousands of books but these are just the books that come to mind that I love.

The Death Gate Cycle; This is a seven book series which basically created 5 worlds from our current one world. New twist on fantasy genre using the "base" races.
The Dark Elf series, by R.L. Salvatore, and anything written by this man is a great read.
If you want a steam punk type setting try reading Full metal Alchemist, while its a manga it is a good story overall

enders game (and its sequals) 5/5- futuristic, almost-apocalypse type read in the first book, but a true delve into the human character.
tom sawyer/huckleberry finn- 6/5- truely two of the best books ever. if you havent read them, do so. if you have, isnt it time you picked them up again?
and lastly, twilight- -1/5. i read all of the books, simply so i could state my opinion, not that i wouldnt give it a good report if i had liked it, i would most definately do so. i felt that the topic was already way too overfilled with crap, and this squeezed even more in. just another way to make money off of idiot people

Yes omg Drizzt has got to be one of the most kickass heroes ever! I've read them all and have most of them. Like my intro said I even at one point had replicas of Twinkle and Icingdeath, but i gave them to a friend who was moving away.
Well lets see what should i go into first? I'm currently looking at my near to overflowing bookcase and trying to decide. Ok we got The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (except the last book when he died halfway through), Piers Anthony's Adept series and Xanth series, Dragonlance Dragonlance and more Dragonlance (several authors all good, but love the Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman), the Gunslinger series, Terry Pratchet's Discworld series, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series (terible tv) and a good scattering of other various books.
