The game most of us have played, and many still have decks stored away somewhere.

W00T! someone else decided to post about it! i put up a "good combos" post somewhere in misc posts i think, but noone said anything on it. i got a good combo for you:
two pyromancers ascensions, already with their requirements hit on the field. play a rite of flame (this will add a total of 6 mana to your mana pool) then incinerate your opponent twice (that will cost four mana, but deal 18 damage) after that shock your opponent (1 mana, 6 damage) thank your opponent for the game.
think, four cards from your hand, two on the field. and nothing that costs more than two mana!

I saw the prior posts and just couldn't find them again, so I decided: M:tG needed it's own spot.
I'm not much for combos, and rarely have the cards needed to build anything substantial without help, but I do love to play.
Speaking of which, Roborob and I are trying to organize a regular Saturday night magic get together, in hopes there will be a little less play on Sunday since we're trying to restoke D&D's old flame for Gathering times. My brother was hosting but had to move and now he cannot.
Anyone have any ideas on when? Where? For some Saturday Magic?

hrm... i know that there is a community center in c-burg thats free to use, but im pretty sure its already booked for saturday. where im at atm wouldnt work or id offer it (too little space) but ill poke around and see what i can find.
about the time though, im not entirely sure saturday would be the best for that. i know my little dnd community (some are on here, some arent) want to start up a saturday night-sunday morning game where we left off last month. ive been putting it on hold, but they keep grumbling about it. so maybe another day, say friday night. but those who work that day wouldnt be able to do it.
either way, i poke my nose around and see what i can find.

Right, Saturday is our wire day for it primarily because Rob has only Saturday and Sunday off work to do this, and I can't remember the last time I even thought about a Friday off.
It may not work out, it may be just two to four people at a time, I think most of us are just the wrong age/responsibilty level to be trying to game eight days a week.
We'll figure something out... We may have to become the first "Magic by e-mail" group, lol!

you have your first member right here!! i already do chess that way, and risk, so its nothing new lolz. i found out that the place i was talking about (the community center) is free early sats until around 2, then they kick everyone out for weekly squaredancing (wtf, right?) but i have a name and number for them... somewhere *looks frantically over desk* ill find it eventually or look it up in a phone book. its near 11 and 997, not far from the mall. ill find it and post it then.

Aether Vial, wait a few turns, play whatever else you need to buy time.
Turn five, at the end of opponents turn, tap Aether Vial to cast Maelstrom Archangel for free, start turn add counter to Aether Vial if you need it.
Spank opponent for five in the air with the archangel, play Rite of Replication for free, pay its five point kicker cost; congratulations, you have six Maelstrom Archangels... Just make sure you are capable of drawing enough cards to make this as epic as it truly is.
Conflux also makes this brilliant.
Or, simple Rite of Replicate kicked on Kokusho, the Evening Star, thank your opponent.

Why is it you hate infinite loops again? These combos are just as mean as any infinite loop.

It may be as mean as an infinite loop, but the other player at least isn't going to be told "times 47 million, I win!"
I do still hate infinite loops. A lot!
Especially when the other players at the table won't even take the time to read the cards and just accept defeat. there have been many times I lose a game because someone else is too upset to play their card to stop the loop...that makes me hate them...
Oh yeah, and it also makes me hate players who are overeager to lose just so a new game can start.

lol, loops are bad.
turn1: mountain, lightning bolt turn two: 2nd mtn, pyromancer ascension turn three: 3rd mtn, rite of flame x3, 8 mana fireball at opponent (does 2x, due to pyromancers ascension) shock for 2 points (needed only one if the opponent didnt gain life)
ive beat quite a few people that way, its one of the combos in my deck. not that the deck needs combos, its mostly burn burn burn, draw draw, repeat XD

So it would be alright if they person with the loop says "I smack you with just enough to kill you." It just seems like an irrational hatred of loops at best or an insidious double standard at worst.
"Its bad to play loops, they make people frustrated and give up...Sweet! I just drew Iona. Let me play Plauge Wind for free with Aether Vial then I'll attack with Maelstrom Archangel and cast Iona for free and choose black...Oh your only color is black? Tough luck, looks like I win."
No different than any loop in my mind. You win and in a highly frustration inducing way. At least with infinite loops there is usually something that can be done about them. Doesn't matter if you say 47 million or not, you've destroyed anything I had in play and shut me down without tapping a land.
But anyways, I'm not trying to convince you to like loops and accept them when they are smashing your life total to nothing. I'm just trying to convince you that there is no difference between them and any nasty combo and that you shouldn't discriminate against methods of achieving victory. Victory is victory, loss is loss. As long as there is no cheating involved, its all the same.
