I'm looking to exercise my creative writing skills, but don't actually writing in earnest on an honest-to-goodness project yet. If you could, would you guys provide me with prompts (like those writing essays from high school)? All I need from you is a genre of fiction (science fiction, fantasy, noir, horror) and a general task I am to accomplish from writing, such as providing me a plot to flesh out into a short story or giving me a few characters and create a short story out of them, anything really. I can't say that I'll work on every suggestion as they come, but I will try my best starting with the ones that will flow the easiest for me.
Also, you could take this as a challenge for yourself as well and try and write short stories out of other peoples suggestions as well.
Just figured it would be fun, and help me improve upon my literary skills.
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to see you write an internal fantasy narrative of when Barrad fulfilled his Assassin class requirement. What motivated him to pursue that path?
Or perhaps a time when Lia Nailo overcame very difficult odds, with or without her friend or faithful badger companion.
Perhaps a sci-fi exposition piece that only creates a fictional setting all your own?
I'll think of some more.

How about a point of view exercise? Take a situation involving at least two people and write the same scenario first from one person's point of view, including inner dialogue, then second person's.
A few ideas - dragonslayer approaching a dragon's lair. - a vampire on the verge of hunger frenzy and his/her victim. - a dirty detective/cop interrogating an innocent suspect. - Two soldiers on opposite sides of the battlefield.

examine the behaviors of a small community from the perspective of a larger being (a god, giant in the sky, etc...) in much the same manner we would observe an ant farm.
